First Words .......................................................... : Howdy folks! It's mid of November, two weeks after Helloween. In a few days all cars in the streets will be equipped with spikes (at least where I'm living), and it won't take long until snow will fall down. December is approaching - that's the month we plan to release Hugi #18. We know that most of the articles are always coming in very short before the release. So please try to keep end of November as the deadline for your texts, so that we have enough time to edit your articles for Hugi. Thanks! . :........................................................................ .. Articles ............................................................. : What about a GUS emulator? Written by odex/cycla. Two years ago I decided to buy a GUS, no matter what it would cost. Well, it turned out to be quite hard to get a GUS. No one didn't have one or then they didn't want to sell it. After searching a couple of months I once asked my sister's boyfriend: "What soundcard do you have in your computer?" He answered: "GUS, want to buy it?" I have used both GUS and old SB16 in my computer until now I realized that my GUS isn't working properly anymore. It made me to think that what would I do when my GUS gets totally broken. No more watching those "old" demos with sound? Oh my god! Many people in demoscene don't have a GUS. Many old demos, and most of the old intros, support only GUS. I'm not a coder, I don't know anything about coding, but I thought that could it be possible to write a GUS emulator? Probably it would be impossible to create an emulator which would work perfectly but just think about the idea. Watching all those great demos and intros with sound. Nice! People who know about coding these kind of things, tell me, could this emulator be possible to create? It surely would be a very useful program for most of the people in scene. And at least I would be ready to pay something for it if my GUS really gets out of order. Just think about the idea. odex/cycla - mailto:odex@sicom.fi - http://www.sicom.fi/~odex Keyboard riders Written by Blade/Evenflow^Metal Militia. This article was written when I read Adok's "Natural born writers" in Hugi #15. We have a fucking storm here in Poland, so it would be nice to write something. Like many people, writing in English takes me more time than if I write in our Polish language. So if someone of the Hugi Staff sees any mistakes in my text, please make it good... people should read texts with no errors. And it's a topic for today - article writers. Almost everyone has written something in the past or wants to write something in the nearest future. But there are people in the scene that don't do anything but writing. They call themselves text writers - keyboard riders - natural born writers. Those are people that have no problems with writing, their arts have a good and intelligent structure - reading something like that is all pleasure. But let's look at this from the other side. When you read something which is written in real time you can feel what the writer felt... They just flow their thoughts on the keybord. Real time reports from parties are the most natural way, to give the people that were absent on the party just a little part of the atmosphere. When I read something like that, I feel like I'm on the party, with all these people that surround the writer. The authors don't correct their errors, you can read everything just like the writer made it at the party place. When the maker is drunk, he writes much, much more and everything is more and more interesting. In my opinion those real time texts have a great atmosphere, but sometimes the authors write very stupid and lame things... [especially when they are drunk ;)]. By the way - you can also read some text, just like essays... sometimes they're cool, but usually, they are boring. How do I write? It depends of the situation. Sometimes [especially when I'm drunk], I write real time texts [RTT??? ;)]. But when I want to write about something very important, I write like Adok... [I am talking about his writing style... You can read about it in his art in Hugi #15.] Then I must think after I wrote the text. Then I've got to correct errors, I've got to test this art... test if it's worth to read. Theme for other art are ideas for the texts. But maybe I'll write about it another time. C'ya and good night... :) Sorry for all errors... sometimes I just have that kind of days. :) Blade/Evenflow^Metal Militia . :........................................................................ ..
