First Words .......................................................... : Hello mates! We are approaching the deadline for Hugi #18 contributions. By the end of November, I must have got all articles and votesheets to publish them in this issue. We are pretty close to the release of Hugi #18. The new interface is finished. It now supports some additional effects and features that were not yet seen in the Preview. Hopefully it is also as bug-free as the Preview. Currently the task of the next Hugi Size Coding Competition is also being discussed. According to the poll which was evaluated today, the most prefered idea is a 4x4 game. There are already some beta rules for this task, so the compo will probably not take long to start. Go to the Credits section for the address of the Hugi Compo website. Happy reading, and see you next week. - Adok (Hugi Core & Royal Family) . :........................................................................ .. It is called Homeless, has a "dark theme", requires Win32, DirectSound, DirectDraw (for fullscreen mode) or GDI (for windowed mode), 32mb of RAM, P133+, and is about 3mb of size (packed). Doose charts (demoscene charts) are back online (beta launch), this time running on MySQL and PHP, so apparently the charts should be realtime. Go and vote. The magazine was made within a few hours and is based on Shockwave Flash. In this way it is both possible to view it online and to download it like a diskmag. Eed:mag issue#1 has an extraordinary interface and a few texts. If the scene accepts this mag, then Xhale will release a new issue every two or four weeks. Posted by Adok, based on news from Xhale. Thanks! . :........................................................................ .. Article .............................................................. : I'm an editor/writter! Now what? Written by psychic symphony. You were a newbie, you started making demos to get inside of that so called scene. Now everything seems pointless.. You have many contacts already, you know almost every good production that ever came out. You get tired of waiting for the next demoparty to come and give you something to "consume". You start running out of ideas and inspiration to code/track/pixel. You write too much about everything and bitch your friends too much about helping you out to make a new demo. You are cut-out to be an editor/writter! :) The first step! You get all diskmags and newsletters you can find and read most of them pretty fast. Sometimes you stop on an article.. So lets write about this, after you finish writting, you read it back, delete it and go back to reading the diskmag. If at first you don't suceed.. You find another interesting topic. You have your own opinion about the subject.. Now all you need is to write them down.. You exit the diskmag and run edit.. You try writting a title.. You exit edit and go back to reading the diskmag... 3 is the magic number! (i think) Ha-ha! This is wrong! I can flame this guy! Let me write it down... Where do i start from.. er.. Now is the time where you start complaining that you can't ever do anything right because of others, they have already written everything about that topic and their english is good and yours is not and you have better things to do then to write stupid articles. When you calm down you try again... Hei! Not bad! Not bad at all.. This is easy... Let me find more topics to write about... And so a new star has been born! Now you have lots of articles! But these diskmags/newsletters take so long to come out and your name hardly appears on it.. It's best you do yourself your own diskmag/newsletter. The first step all over again! Wow! I have a structure for the mag, now all i need is support! :/ If at first you don't suceed all over again.. "Oh please!!!!!! Just one article!!!!! Help me!!!!!" 3 is the magic number all over again! (i think) Screw them! I'll keep releasing my mag! I'll show them! After ignoring lots of negative feedback you finally find someone who says some nice words to you about it.. "nice try kid.." And so you happily get to work on your second issue. Now your mag looks cooler. Some people supported you even! Niiiicccceee! :) Now your starting to get sick of all this beeing an editor/writter crap but it is becoming personal! Your mag is going to be known even if you have to stuff it down peoples throats. "Hei! This isnt that bad." "I HATE BEEING AN EDITOR/WRITTER!!!" Now you are ready for another jump! To go beyond all common mags and be THE mag!!! All you need is to work hard and get support from some people. As another average issue comes out you wonder what you can do to get other peoples attention... So now comes the time when you wonder why you are an editor on the first place... You get lots of work. You get little feedback. You get non-constructive feedback. (which is even worse) You are not considered a scener since you don't do demos (which you have no time for because of the mag) So why should you be an editor? I tell you why.. because when you release it you always do it with a smile on your face, a cry-baby who has just been given a new toy. The immense sense of joy and satisfaction of beeing able to say: "this was really hard work! But i pulled it off once again! I'm the best!" psychic symphony - psychic_symphony@clix.pt . :........................................................................ ..
