Hugi 20 is making progress, as well as the French translation of it - maybe it'll be possible to release the international and the French edition simultaneously. There's also been some action at translating Hugi 19 to Russian. Also, a lot of new graphics have been created. - Adok (Hugi Core & Royal Family) . :........................................................................ .. News ................................................................. : Pain 05/2000. * Pain 05/2000 (2.1 mb) is out! The current issue works on Windows 95, 98 and 2000, their DOS Frontend isn't compatible with this issue. * You can also download previous issues and fill the voting form for Pain 07/2000 at the official Pain site: http://pain.planet-d.net/ * The deadline for Pain 07/2000 contributions is July 8th! It's available both as MP3 and IT at http://www.kolumbus.fi/acumen/. * "Finally - after all the delays I'm really happy to present you all my latest effort on my quest of soul searching. 'Serenity of Silence' - I almost can imagine that this song can be closely referred to one of my earlier releases, 'One of a Kind'. It has the same intense mood, the same kind of unique melodies - and the same author naturally. ;) If 'One of a kind' was melancholic, I'd say this is like a sequel to the story - after 1OK's close to earth melancholic touches I think this song is reaching out for the sky and saying: 'Hey, I can do it.' You can hear that certain 'wannabe' sounding, the melody is pushing up with a lot of confidence - and having faith in itself. The intro part of the song gives a nice contrast to this as it's probably the only part I could call even close to "Melancholic", and even that in a mellow mood. The IT version will be [was] released in 2nd of June, 2000. It will also be featured in a polish diskmagazine called Legend (3rd issue!), and I'm also entering this tune into the Heavenly Music Competition3, which I encourage all you composers out there to join too! You can find the link to the HMC3 at my homepage, as well as for other mod compos that are around (one excellent new compo called 'Other Sight' has been launched! - link to this also at my website)... 'Serenity of Silence' is dedicated to Ann Mary H. with all my heart and soul." * Also "a rather big update" on his website has been done. Now available is a full discography and a new update on his audio CD project. There are also more links and recommendations to "good songs". Posted by Acumen, slightly edited by Adok. MS2000 alternative music rip. * The winner of the alternative music competition at Mekka & Symposium 2000 was BZZ. The tune he submitted, however, had in fact been written by Carlos/Mandula and had appeared in the demo "dis" first. * It seems that the matter has now been resolved. Michael Kargas has forwarded to the newsgroup comp.sys.ibm.pc.demos Tomcat's translation of a Hungarian letter BZZ sent to him. Tomcat had originally posted this translated letter to the Greenroom Forum (http://greenroom.flashdesign.hu/). In this letter BZZ states that he did not want to enter the tune into the competition. He did not even attend the party, but friends of his (Mr. Pixel and Lord) did. They found the tune on his harddisk and entered it in the competition. They took it for an original tune by BZZ because it happened to be in the directory where he stored his self-made tunes. BZZ still says that the fault lies with him, because he should not have stored a tune which he did not create in the directory with his own tunes. He apologized and promised to send the prize back to the Mekka & Symposium organizers, and then leave the scene. Posted by Adok, based on news from Michael Kargas. Arse '2000 Australian Scene Party. * In the newsgroup comp.sys.ibm.pc.demos Gaffer has announced a scene party called "Arse" to take place in mid to late december 2000 in Sydney, Australia. "If you are interested mail mailto:arse@gaffer.org so we can get an idea of how many people to start planning for. We are currently expecting a turnout of 30-50 people." Posted by Adok, based on news from Gaffer. Adverts in Demos? * There is a very active thread going on as we speak on the demo scene newsgroup comp.sys.ibm.pc.demos. It all started when flash posted this message: * "I was just thinking about maybe adverts for products or companies in demos, say if a company asked you to put a 40 sec advert at the beginning and a 20 sec at the end? would you? would you if money was offered? how much? 1000 e? 10000 e? Just wanted to see what the general response to the idea of selling out the scene would be?" * This resulted in a HUGE thread about the issue, going from statements like "Demos are art. Don't sell your soul" (fred / Caldox) to discussion about why Gravis (the biggest commercial supporter of the scene ever) died. Check it out... Posted by Civax.
